Is It Necessary To Register a Marriage Through The Nearest Muslim Marriage Registrar or Kazi Office?

According to the law, marriage must be registered in the local Muslim Marriage Registrar’s and Divorce Registrar’s records of the ward or area where the marriage takes place, whether at a home, hotel, restaurant, or community center. It is mandatory to register in the registrar’s records of the respective area, not in those of another ward or area. For example, just as land registration must be carried out by the sub-registrar of the concerned area, the same rule applies to Muslim Marriage Registrars.

While you may have a trusted or familiar Kazi or their representative, it is not legally valid to register a marriage in the register of another area under their supervision. Refer to the published gazette of 2011 for clarification. However, there is no restriction on inviting your respected religious figure to solemnize the marriage (Nikah).
